Beaudesert Show 2013

Beaudesert Show - Needlework Section 2013

This was my first year as Chief Steward for the

Needlework Section at the Beaudesert Show. 

I enjoyed it very much, learned a few things,

will change a few things, took note of a few things. 

It was interesting listening to the judges comments as she worked her way through the entries. Some comments worth noting include

make sure you adhere to the Class title.

For example a "soft toy" must be for playing with and cuddling,

otherwise it's not a toy.

Size restrictions must be adhered to.

Attention to detail decides the winner.

Press, press, press! ( I think I say that one a lot too)

If the Class specifies an item "not mentioned" you shouldn't enter something that belongs in another class (even if you are limited to 2 items).

It was great to see some of my students work entered.

Juanita's skeleton shirt for her husband came second.

Ellen's Log Cabin Quilt came first in the Novice section and also

received the Encouragement Award.

Esther did well with the dress she made for her Year 7 Graduation.

Maggie and Georgia both did well in the Primary School section.

Maddison (not a student of mine) is 12 years old and does the most amazing work. She sews and smocks beautifully. Her Mother and Grandmother are both very talented and have taught her well. I think it is wonderful to have 3 generations of talented sewers who share their skills.

Lesley's tutu performed well (pardon the pun LOL), though

I didn't teach her that one.

Marg's teddy bear delighted the judge so much, he won Grand Champion.

There were some new faces this year which is terrific.
There are so many talented people around here, and we really need

to encourage them all to enter.

Remember - there is no Show without entries.

So watch out, because next year I'll be chasing your entries. LOL

Teen and Children's Classes this week

New teens class with Natalie, Alyssa, and Misa who was visiting from Japan.

The girls all chose lovely bright colours for their cushions.

Georgia made a satchel from some very pretty fabrics.

I forgot to take a photo of the lining. Oops.

Esther and Maggie have mad diary covers.

They'd all make great entries in the Beaudesert Show.

Don't forget entires must be received by August 30.

Happy Birthday Georgia

Georgia was very lucky to receive an overlocker for her birthday.

She has not used one before in class, so I quickly designed a very easy cushion cover that she has sewn entirely on her new overlocker.

Well done Georgia - nothing to be scared of!

Beaudesert Show 2012 - Children's Section

WOW! How talented are these kids.

Most of the items in this photo belong to my students.

Well done to all who entered, and Congratulations to

those of you who won prizes.

I am so proud of you all.

I passed Nita on Sunday morning and she said she had heard my voice in her head saying "there's no show without entries". So thankyou to all who entered their sewing this year,. It was a fabulous display of talent.

Chloe's Christmas Decorations

Chloe also made some hanging decorations using a Christmas print featuring blocks.

These were joined to a flet back using vliesofix and stitched with coloured thread and a hanging ribbon added.

Bunting

Chloe and Darcy both made bunting during separate classes.

Chloe's triangles are only about 10cm and Darcy's are bigger at about 20cm.

Chloe used bias binding to join them and Darcy used ribbon.

They both look great are are very festive.

Christmas Classes

 

Marg embroidered some purchased placements with christmas designs for teachers gifts.

They are designed as appliques, but for a quicker project they are perfect sewn using great Christmas colours in the threads.

 

School Holiday Class for Teens

 

A 2 day workshop to sew a pair of shorts using

 Kwik Sew pattern 3854 view B.

9.30 - 12.30 both days

 

Cost

$80 includes tuition, pattern & interfacing.

Morning tea is provided.

Students will need to purchase their own fabric,

thread, and buttons - AFTER talking to me.

Student numbers will be limited.

 

This is not a beginner sewing class.

Students must have some sewing experience.

Please call me to discuss if students are not

currently enrolled with Sewing With Wendy.

 

Students must use their own sewing machine,

which must be CLEAN AND IN GOOD WORKING ORDER.
